Phantom HD at 2000 fps
Two thousand frames per second of HD video does not come out of a camera per se, it’s more like a computer with a lens on it. Recently Director Daniel Cardenas, DP Steven Bradford and crew, rented the Phantom high speed camera for a product ruggedability comparison. Using 2- 1200 HMIs to light the action, the camera at that frame rate is very light hungry. Tethered to a workstation via gigabit ethernet and a 20 sec. roll time, shooting is a exercise in patience and fascination.
Once a take is recorded, we check it, mark it as a keeper, export it and save it, or dump it. All of this takes a few minutes for about 25 seconds of footage. High speed, super slo-mo, beautiful HD footage so strikingly clear you can see specs of dirt fly off the ground as the tool hits the ground.
We wrecked about $50K worth of high tech thermal imagers to prove a point. Check it out.
